Skrill vs NETELLER: which e-wallet costs less?
Information checked on 12 October 2026 against the providers' official websites. Fees and availability change — always confirm on the provider's site before signing up.
Choose Skrill if…
- you top up by card or bank transfer — card deposits cost up to 1.25% and bank transfers 0% (Skrill charges a minimum of €0.50 per deposit), versus 2.5% for most NETELLER methods;
- you want a prepaid Mastercard in one of the 32 European countries and territories (EEA countries, Gibraltar and the UK) where Skrill issues it;
- you want to buy and sell crypto in the same app (Skrill lists over 40 cryptocurrencies).
Choose NETELLER if…
- you convert currencies often — NETELLER charges up to 3.99% versus Skrill’s 4.49%, and VIP members pay as little as 1%;
- you want to pay with Apple Pay — NETELLER says its Net+ Prepaid Mastercard can be added to Apple Pay;
- a merchant or platform you use pays out to NETELLER.
They are siblings: both belong to the Paysafe group, charge identical person-to-person (2.99%) and bank-withdrawal (1.75%, minimum 3.50) fees, and both start a €/$5 monthly inactivity fee after 6 months without activity. The real differences are deposits, currency conversion and cards.
Skrill and NETELLER are e-wallets owned by Paysafe and regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland, according to their websites. Both let you hold money, pay online merchants, send money to other users, withdraw to a bank and use a prepaid Mastercard. Because they are run by the same group, their price lists look alike — but not identical.
We compared each provider’s official fee page line by line. Skrill quotes minimum fees in euros and NETELLER in US dollars; the percentages are the same on any amount. Fees on real amounts
Worked examples using the providers' published fee schedules. Exchange-rate differences are not included unless stated.
- Depositing €200 by card: Skrill up to 1.25% = up to €2.50; NETELLER 2.5% = €5.00. By bank transfer Skrill’s fee is 0%, but its €0.50 minimum deposit fee applies — €0.50; NETELLER’s local bank deposit costs 0–1% (up to €2).
- Sending 100 to another user: 2.99% = €2.99 on Skrill or $2.99 on NETELLER; on the True tiers 1.45% = 1.45. The recipient pays nothing.
- Withdrawing 100 to your bank: 1.75% would be 1.75, so the minimum applies — €3.50 (Skrill) or $3.50 (NETELLER). Withdrawing 1,000 costs 17.50 on either.
- Converting €200 into another currency: Skrill 4.49% = €8.98; NETELLER up to 3.99% = up to €7.98.
- Leaving the account untouched for a year: no fee for the first 6 months, then 5 a month — 30 (€ on Skrill, $ on NETELLER) by month 12. Logging in once resets the clock.
- Using the prepaid card for a €100 purchase in another currency: both cards charge 3.99% — €3.99. A €100 ATM withdrawal costs 1.75% = €1.75 (minimum €1 on Skrill, $1 on NETELLER). Since 1 April 2026 both cards also charge 0.50% when money is received directly onto the card — receiving €500 costs €2.50, and on small amounts the 1 €/$ minimum applies.
- Moving money between them: withdrawing from Skrill to NETELLER costs 3.49%, and NETELLER to Skrill also 3.49% — €3.49 per €100.
Which to choose for…
Freelancers
Use Skrill or NETELLER if a platform you work with pays out to one of them: receiving is free, but withdrawing to a bank costs 1.75% (minimum 3.50) and conversion 3.99–4.49%. For clients paying by bank transfer, a multi-currency account is usually cheaper — see Wise vs Revolut.
Travel
Neither is a travel card: both prepaid cards charge 3.99% on foreign currency and 1.75% on ATM withdrawals (minimum 1 €/$), plus a 10 €/$ yearly fee. For trips, compare ZEN vs Wise or Wise vs Revolut.
Business
Both wallets are used as checkout options by online merchants, and merchant pricing is quoted separately from the consumer fees above. For paying suppliers abroad, Skrill’s international money transfer service lists no transfer fee when you pay by bank transfer, up to 1% by debit card, PaysafeCash or bank transfer via Sofort/Klarna, and up to 2.99% by credit card, plus an exchange-rate mark-up of up to 4.99%.
Receiving payments from abroad
Receiving into either wallet is free when no currency conversion is involved. Keep the money in the currency you were paid in if you can — converting costs 4.49% on Skrill or up to 3.99% on NETELLER — and plan withdrawals in larger amounts to avoid paying the 3.50 minimum repeatedly. Also ask your bank whether it charges its own fee for incoming international transfers — that is not part of Skrill’s or NETELLER’s pricing.
